Discipleship

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen. (Mat 28:19-20)

“I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. What happens next?” All Christians rejoice when a new believer is born into God’s kingdom. Yet, too many times “rejoice” is all we do. Jesus called the process of accepting Him as the Lord of our lives as being “born again”. The phrase “born again” should paint a vivid picture in our minds of a newly born infant taking its first breath of life in this world. The infant is helpless and totally dependent on its parents for growth, nourishment, love, and leadership. So is the new believer in Christ.

Jesus called us to “make disciples”. This is the process of training a new believer in the same way a parent is to nourish and train a new child. It is our goal at Meadow Grove to produce mature, healthy Christians. The process is not always easy. Nothing worth having ever is. Just as a young child learns to walk, the new believer will have falls, doubts, and fears. We at Meadow Grove strive to help our brothers and sisters in Christ overcome these falls through a daily walk with the creator of the universe.

Stress, sickness, and depression are major issues each one of us will face in our lifetimes. The world offers many empty solutions to these problems. Discipleship is all about growing closer to God. The Bible says that if we “draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. And when He draws near to us, “He will give us the peace that passes all understanding.” The ability to trust God with all of your doubts and fears will give you the freedom to live a life of peace. Even when we do not know why things are happening, He promises to come to us and give us peace. That is discipleship. It is like walking through a minefield with the man who placed down the mines. It is still difficult. We still have to go through the field. But, with Jesus at our side, we can navigate through the field with a peace that passes all understanding
